Newport is still filled with multi-million dollar mansions, and there's also plenty of more affordable real estate, with offerings running the gamut from beachside condos to classic New England colonials. Here's a taste of what's out there.

New York City is within driving distance of one of the best ski spots in the country, the town of Killington, in Vermont's Green Mountains. Real estate there ranges from ski-ready condos to luxury mountain houses with all the fixings. Consider, for instance, the three-bed, five-bath mountain house at 75 Gina Dr., now on the market for $965,000.

Bedford's got a whole host of sweeping mansions for well-heeled residents, but you can still find some great spots priced closer to what you would pay for a median-priced apartment in Manhattan, with more space and romance to boot. Consider, for instance, this 1900-built farmhouse at 2 Middle Patent Rd., now on the market for $1,099,000. The renovated house has three bedrooms and three baths.

For fans of Spanish architecture and history, Santa Barbara is extra idyllic. The city has deep Spanish roots, as evidenced by the city's abundant Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, and celebrates its history through a number of festivals.
