The town of Sugar Hill sits near the White Mountains of New Hampshire and not far from the Green Mountains of Vermont, a location that gifts the area with incredible views, and lush valleys and fields. Wealthy Victorian families from New England used to summer in the area, and artists have long been drawn to the region's natural beauty. It is still a beautiful place, but the summer resorts are long gone. In their stead, there are some winter sports spots—Ski Hearth Farm, for instance, has ice-skating and cross-country skiing, and you can drive to any of the White Mountain ski resorts nearby if you're looking to do downhill.

There's also a pretty serious glut of hiking trails, fishing, and canoeing lakes, farmers' markets, and golf courses (Sugar Hill Inn has a nice list of seasonal activities for visitors). Popular dining spots include the inn's lovely restaurant, in addition to celebrated breakfast spot Polly's Pancake Parlor, which boasts beautiful views in addition to tasty pancakes and other treats.

And, most importantly, Sugar Hill and its surrounding area have some incredible real estate, with big mountain houses surrounded by pristine pockets of nature, all for reasonable prices. Consider, for instance, the four-bedroom, three-bath house at 189 Birches Rd., now on the market for $539,000. The house was built in 2000, and sits on a nearly 10-acre lot. The views are breathtaking.

There's a stone hearth fireplace in the living area.

The kitchen, which is tucked behind the living room, has white cabinets and what look to be granite countertops. There's also a little breakfast bar.

The basement is partially finished, with the potential to transform into a den, gym, or extra bedroom.

It looks like the current owners have installed a barrel sauna in the basement, though it's not mentioned in the listing.

The house is about a six-hour drive from New York City, and a two-and-a-half hour drive from Boston.
