If you’re considering joining the droves of New Yorkers who recently moved to Florida, you might want to check out Tampa. That’s because the city is expected to be the U.S.’s hottest real estate market in 2022 thanks in part to its strong job market, according to Zillow. But that strong demand means prices are rising and you’ll face competition for houses.

Still the sunshine state has many perks for New York buyers. For one, there’s no state income tax, property taxes are lower than the national average, and there’s a first-time homebuyer’s program with fixed-rate mortgages.

When it comes to buying a house in Tampa, the current median sales price is $350,000, according to Realtor.com. There are currently 438 single-family houses listed on the site. Because the city is spread out, you can find houses on the waterfront, near downtown, and farther out in the suburbs. There are also many to-be-built new construction listings.

There’s a lot to do here—especially if you like the outdoors. Some popular attractions include Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, The Florida Aquarium, Tampa Museum of Art, Lettuce Lake National Park, shopping destinations like Hyde Park Village, and as you would expect, many white sand beaches along the Gulf of Mexico.
