You’ll find a mix of history, nature, and comparatively low-priced houses in Hyde Park, a Dutchess County town that was once an escape for the wealthy families of the Gilded Age.

The town is perhaps best known for being the birthplace of Franklin D. Roosevelt: You can visit his home, a National Historic Site with a library, museum, and gardens. Other historical sites include Vanderbilt Mansion and Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site. It’s also home to the Culinary Institute of America

Local restaurants include Lady K’s Southern Comfort, Butchy’s BBQ, and Joseph’s Italian Steakhouse along Violet Avenue, plus spots like Eveready Diner and Coppola’s on Albany Post Road. Although, there isn’t a central downtown area, you are close to other towns like Poughkeepsie and Fairview. It’s about a two-hour drive from Midtown Manhattan

When it comes to real estate, the median sales price is $248,500 according to Realtor.com. There are about 115 houses on the market right now including Capes, Colonials, and new construction. There are also several lots for sale if you want to build your own house.
