If you're looking to buy a house in a New Jersey suburb that's close to New York City, you might want to consider Englewood, which is just across the Hudson and also has a walkable downtown, parks, and well-regarded public schools.

You’ll find Bergen Performing Arts Center on Dean Street plus local stores and eateries like Akai Lounge, Pintxo y Tapas, U Pie & Lobster Company, and Rose’s of Englewood. ShopRite, Englewood Public Library, and MacKay Park are also nearby. And, it’s about a 35-minute drive from Midtown.

You can also buy a house for less than you can in the five boroughs: The median sales price is $412,000, according to Redfin. Right now, you can find Tudors, Colonials, a few condo buildings, and multi-million dollar properties on the market.
