Forget the Murphy Bed: Behold the gravity-defying sleeping platform

Murphy beds are so yesterday. Practical as they may be, unless they're done right, they scream 1982.  Of course the idea of tucking your mattress away to free up living space... that's something we can get behind.

That's why we couldn't take our eyes off these retractable sleeping platforms recently featured on RemodelistaThe beds (seen in the slideshow above) are raised overhead, so you can use the space underneath when you're not sleeping. Some are electronically operated, others work on pulleys.

While we're not sure our landlords would go for it, we still love to dream. If you own your apartment, you might still get this past the co-op board because it's barely a reno, but you probably want to double check.
