The city is taking applications for 152 new below-market-rate apartments in West Farms, the Bronx through the housing lottery.

The apartments are studios and one, two, and three bedrooms in a 15-story building at 1903 West Farms Rd. They are set aside for households making $33,806-$66,240 a year, with rents starting at $929 a month, for a studio.

The all-"affordable" building is described as having a courtyard, bike storage, laundry, a community room, a gym, and security cameras. The apartments are supposed to have stainless-steel appliances and granite counters.

The building is part of a planned 10-building development in an area near the Cross-Bronx Expressway formerly taken up by industry and warehouses. The complex is also supposed to include retail.

The new building is one long block from the 2 and 5 trains at West Farms Square-East Tremont Avenue, and a little over half an hour from Grand Central Terminal on the 5.

If you are interested and think you might qualify for one of these apartments, you can create a profile and apply online via NYC Housing Connect. Don't apply more than once, or you could be disqualified.
