A Williamsburg one bedroom near music venues, now that the L train blues are no more, for $2,775
New Yorkers no longer have to fear a complete L train shutdown so Willamsburg and other North Brooklyn neighborhoods served by the beleaguered subway line are once again a top pick for many renters.
In a surprise announcement, Gov. Andrew Cuomo says L train repairs will happen on nights and weekends, instead of a complete 15-month shutdown. So if you had put Williamsburg on the back burner, better get back out there, as demand is likely to tick up.
Consider 86 Marcy Ave. #4A, a no-fee one bedroom in the heart of Williamsburg just 10 minutes from the L (and even closer to other train lines). Available Jan. 15, the sunlit fourth-floor apartment is asking $2,775, just $25 more than the median asking rent for the neighborhood, according to StreetEasy.
The open kitchen is rather small. It has stainless steel appliances (including a dishwasher and microwave), and not a lot of cabinets. However, the sink is on an island that separates the kitchen from the living room and offers some counter space and possible additional storage.
The living room is sizable enough to fit furniture and a dining table. The large floor-to-ceiling window lets in lots of light—and a view of the Brooklyn-Queen Expressway.
The bedroom is big enough to fit a queen-sized bed and furniture and also has a large window that overlooks the BQE.
Though the bath is fairly run of the mill, it does appear to be a decent size and seems to have a vanity with drawers and a large mirrored medicine cabinet.

The building is near from many of Williamsburg’s great bars and restaurants, as well as the neighborhood's music venues, like the Knitting Factory, Baby’s All Right, the Music Hall of Williamsburg, and Brooklyn Bowl. Plus, metal fans can get in a head bangin’ session at Duff’s, which is about three blocks south on Marcy Avenue.
As for transit, the B24 bus stops one block south, while the nearest subway is the Marcy Avenue J and M stop, a six-minute walk.
