It’s harder to find a deal in Manhattan these days: There’s lots of demand for apartments and rents are on the rise: The borough’s median rent jumped 17.9 percent in October to $3,495, compared to the same month last year according to the Elliman Report. However you can find a deal (by Manhattan standards) if you’re flexible about your building or area. Non-doorman buildings are less expensive, and so are neighborhoods on Manhattan’s fringe.
