5 houses in Oklahoma City, the land of cowboys, start-ups, and low prices
The state capital of Oklahoma is Oklahoma City, a thriving metropolis in the heart of cowboy country. The city is growing, drawing young families and millennials thanks in part to revitalization projects like Bricktown, a former abandoned warehouse zone that's now the city's entertainment district, and it's home to museums, restaurants, retail, hotels, and the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
OKC's downtown area is also in the midst of a revitalization, with areas like Deep Deuce offering vibrant bars and music venues (including spots for jazz and the blues) that appeal to younger professionals. The Paseo Arts District is also a popular spot, home to historic houses and a slew of galleries and residential artists.
There are a slew of breweries (Anthem Brewing Company, Twisted Spike, and Bricktown Brewery are all worth a visit, among others), some great barbecue (Earl's Rib Palace, Leo's Barbeque, George's Happy Hog Barbeque), steakhouses, a lot of Sonic Drive-Ins (the chain is actually based in OKC), and some very friendly locals.
And if that's not enough to tempt you to take a look at the Sooner State, OKC is one of the best large cities in the country to start a business, according to a recent Wallethub study. When you factor in the city's low cost of living (the median listing price is $189,000, per Zillow) it is a pretty livable spot. If any of that appeals to you, read on.
