Yonkers, New York has been called New York City’s sixth borough and it’s a good place to move if you want more space with a quick commute for work or school.

It’s the biggest city in Westchester County and has a walkable downtown area where you’ll find Van Der Donck Park, the historic site Philipse Manor Hall State plus local restaurants like X2O, Yonkers Brewing Company, and La Bella Havana. There are also several big malls and shopping centers, like Cross County Center and Ridge Hill.  

Another perk: You’ll get a lot more for your budget when it comes to buying real estate. The median sales price is $412,500, according to Realtor.com. And, you’ve got a lot of options whether you want a house or an apartment because there are over 400 listings in the area. You can find waterfront condos, new construction, and older houses like Tudors and Capes are currently on the market.

And, it’s only about a 40-minute Metro North ride to Grand Central Station or a 40-minute drive to Midtown. You’re also on the border of the Bronx, Hastings-on-Hudson, and Mount Vernon.
