Live like a Gilmore Girls neighbor in this Connecticut lake house
Sotheby's
Lorelai Gilmore once famously declared she could “smell snow” coming. If you too would like to learn this skill, it’s worth checking out this lakefront cottage in Washington, Connecticut. The two bedroom, two bath is on the shore of Lake Waramaug and listed for $995,000.
The cozy, 1,500 square-foot house has oak floors, an insulated and heated sleeping porch, as well as a boat dock and pergola, making it a prime spot for year-round visits, whether or not the lake is frozen. Plus there’s a fireplace.
The lake-facing living room windows let in plenty of light.
The galley kitchen is compact by Connecticut standards, but still attractive.
And there’s a cute little dining nook.
The two bedrooms are airy, light-filled, and lake-facing.
The ornamental wood slats here gives it an upgraded cottage-chic look.
The porch doesn't look so warm, but there's only one way to see how well the heat works.
And, of course, there are the dock, for your boats. If you don’t have boats, you should consider getting some.
The house also has two open decks, though we don't see them up close. It was built in 2009, and the listing price is nearly $1 million less than the average Hamptons home sold for this past summer, so hopefully you'll have some spare cash, to spend on boats.
The town of Washington was actually the inspiration for Stars Hollow, the town from the show Gilmore Girls, and it’s just as cute and picturesque as its fictional counterpart, though tragically there is no gazebo or Luke’s Diner.
It’s a little hard to bit out of the way but not terrible for a weekend trip: it’s a little over two hours’ drive from New York City, and about a 40-minute drive from the Metro-North station in Danbury, Connecticut.
