5 four-bedrooms apartments for under $1 million in Brooklyn, Queens, and Riverdale

Finding a four-bedroom (or larger) condo or co-op is extremely challenging in Manhattan. Indeed, units this size represented just five percent of sales in the second quarter, according to Douglas Elliman’s most recent Manhattan sales report. And prices for large apartments in Manhattan are astronomical.

Apartments with four-plus bedrooms hit a median of $6,995,000 in the second quarter, a 6.6 percent increase over the same period last year. If that's out of your price range (like way, way, out of your price range) take your search for larger apartments to the outer boroughs.

A quick search of StreetEasy finds 23 units with four (or more) bedrooms for sale in Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx that are all under $1 million.

35-54 80th St., #31, Jackson Heights

Listed for $839,000, this 1,300-square-foot, four-bedroom, two-bath co-op (also pictured top) has a formal dining room, large living room, renovated kitchen with painted wood cabinets and stainless steel appliances, pantry, and washer/dryer. It’s in the Greystones, a 14-building complex with free basement storage and a nearly block-long garden. The unit is located on the third floor of a walk-up building and allows pets. Subletting is not permitted. Maintenance is $846 a month.

1249 42nd St., #4, Borough Park

Features of this 1,788-square-foot, four-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bath condo include hardwood floors, high ceilings, a private elevator, large storage area in the basement, laundry room, eat-in kitchen, separate Passover kitchenette, and two balconies—one in front and one at the rear of the property. It’s in a five-story condo building and is listed for $974,999. Common charges are $200 a month. Taxes are $813 a month. A tenant currently occupies the apartment on a month-to-month basis and pays $3,700 a month.

This $849,000 four-bedroom, two-bath co-op has a large foyer, restored hardwood flooring, an open floor plan, a windowed chef’s kitchen with an island, a dining room with a custom-built wine bar, an in-unit washer/dryer, and custom closets. Storage and bike parking are available upon request for a monthly fee. Maintenance is $1,280 a month.

It’s in a six-story, co-op building with a live-in super. Maintenance is $1,717 a month.

This 1,849-square-foot, four-bedroom, three-bath condo duplex was recently renovated. The unit, which is listed for $899,000, has a bright kitchen with an eat-in area, a large living/dining room with high ceilings, a balcony, a master bedroom with a full bathroom, and two additional bedrooms and another bathroom on the first floor. The second floor offers a large bedroom (that can be divided into two), a full bathroom, and a laundry room. It’s in a three-story condo building with private parking and two storage units in the basement. Common charges are $219 a month. Taxes are $375 a month.
