5 Crown Heights apartments with open houses this weekend
This week’s Neighborhood Secrets column featured Brooklyn’s Crown Heights, a historic area shared by Caribbean Americans, an increasing number of hipster renters, and a large ultra-Orthodox Jewish community.
Dining options reflects that diversity and includes new coffee shops, West Indian restaurants, and kosher markets—and several new nightlife options as the area’s popularity has risen in recent years. The neighborhood also is close to Prospect Park, and includes the Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, plus has access to six subway lines and the Franklin Avenue Shuttle.
This makes Crown Heights in high demand, but it suffers from low inventory. Still, we found a co-op, three condos, and a townhouse for sale with open houses this weekend.
842 Park Place, #4E
The price for this 1,800-square-foot, four-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bath co-op might be hard to believe, but it’s in an HDFC building and has income restrictions to make sure the sale is reserved for moderate-income buyers. The bright floor-through unit was renovated in 2005 and has a formal dining room plus laundry. The Nostrand Avenue station on the 3 train is four blocks away. The apartment is listed for $449,000.
The open houses are planned for Friday, June 8th, 1-3 p.m., and Saturday, June 9th, noon-1:30 p.m.
832 Classon Ave., #2R
This two-bedroom, one-bath condo is on the second floor of a prewar walkup. The kitchen has been recently renovated with stainless steel appliances and a dishwasher. It looks like the apartment was converted from a one bedroom as the kitchen and living area are squeezed together (in the photos the couch abuts the fridge). But that might not bother some people. There’s a shared garden and free laundry, plus private storage in the basement. The apartment is listed for $650,000.
The open house is planned for Sunday, June 10th, 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
382 Eastern Parkway, #2G
This two-bedroom, two-bath prewar condo conversion has been newly gut renovated. It features hardwood floors, recessed lighting, stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops, and upgraded electric throughout. The kitchen and both bathrooms have windows. One of the bedrooms has an en suite bath and walk-in closet. The apartment is listed for $735,000.
The open house is planned for Sunday, June 10th, 1-2 p.m.
824 Dean St., #4
The sponsor will pay transfer taxes and the attorney fee for this three-bedroom, two-bath duplex condo in the northwest corner of Crown Heights, a block from Prospect Heights. Part of the kitchen is tucked under the staircase, but it features high-end stainless steel appliances. One bedroom on the main floor has a balcony; the upstairs bedroom has access to the roof deck. The apartment is listed for $1,350,000.
The open house is planned for Sunday, June 10th, 11 a.m.-noon.
1380 Dean St.
Located in the Crown Heights Historic District, this townhouse has about 2,800 square feet and five bedrooms and four baths. Original details have been preserved including four fireplaces, wedding cake plaster moldings, lattice bordered hardwood floors, mahogany doors, wainscoting, and skylights. The townhouse is listed for $2,289,000.
The open house is planned for Sunday, June 10th, 1-2 p.m.
