If you like your classic Brooklyn townhouses with a bit of artistic flair, 639 74th St. in Bay Ridge could be worth a look. The four-bedroom, two-bath barrel-front limestone combines traditional details with funky additions and modern updates. It is listed for $1,475,000.

The townhouse has inlaid parquet floors, high ceilings, original stained glass, pocket doors, and carved wood details. The dining room has an intricate coffered ceiling, as well as a pass-through breakfast bar, connecting it to the kitchen.

The custom kitchen has shelving made from antique barn and reclaimed industrial wood, stainless steel appliances and a large window overlooking the deck and garden.

A sliding door leads to the deck and the yard below, which is enclosed by a new fence.

There are four bedrooms upstairs, two of which easily accommodate king-size beds.

The upstairs rooms also have brick walls, some exposed, some painted.

A bathroom on this floor has wood wainscotting and Carrara Bianco hexagon mosaic tile. (Note that there is no bathroom on the first floor, although there is a second one in the basement.)

The lower level has a rec space and laundry facilities, as well as storage space, and access to both the front and back yard.

Updates to the townhouse include a new roof, deck, boiler, and radiators, all replaced in the past three years.

The townhouse is on a tree-lined street with other similar limestone buildings, however one end of the block overlooks the Gowanus Expressway. The R train is three blocks away at 77th Street, and express buses on Third Avenue can make it to Manhattan in about 30 minutes. Shopping, dining and entertainment are all readily available along Third and Fourth Avenues.
