Small Wonder

A sleeping loft gives this Financial District studio plenty of space for entertaining

Though locals are starting to complain that the neighborhood's now too crowded, the Financial District continues to transform into an increasingly livable residential neighborhood, thanks in part to a wealth of high-end housing stock, like this renovated loft studio a tony co-op 3 Hanover Square. (The building itself is a full-service co-op with a full-time concierge, housed in a building that used to be the home of the Cotton Exchange.)

A foyer passes the galley kitchen and opens into a spacious main living room, with bamboo floors, high ceilings, and large, soundproofed windows.

An airy set of stairs leads up to the spacious sleeping loft, which also includes a walk-in closets. (There are smaller closets throughout the rest of the apartment, as well.)

As for the kitchen, it looks to have a good amount of counter and cabinet space, plus up-to-date extras including a built-in microwave, dishwasher, custom cabinetry, and Calcutta Gold marble countertops (we like the contrast between the light marble and dark, rich wood):

The bathroom has a similar aesthetic, including a walk-in shower with body jets.

Unsurprisingly, none of this is going to come cheap. The asking price is $795,000, on top of the pricey monthly maintenance charges, set at $1,257/month. These days, that's the price you pay if you want to combine a high-end, old New York address with luxe new renovations.
