This West Village penthouse is oddly shaped but has serious views
We're used to apartments in the Village having idiosyncratic shapes and layouts, crammed as they are into centuries-old buildings on even older streets. But most of them don't also come with massive floor-to-ceiling windows and a spacious rooftop terrace, as is the case with this "boutique" three-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom penthouse at 17th Avenue South.
It's a duplex, with bedrooms on the ground level, and the upper level is set up for entertaining with lots of seating space, the aforementioned giant windows, a chef's kitchen with high-end appliances and fixtures (and from the looks of the photos, a rather inexplicable water cooler), and access to a rooftop wraparound terrace spanning the entire length of the building:
Unsurprisingly, this doesn't come cheap: The apartment, repped by Compass, is available as a 12-month or 24-month rental for $14,500/month, which is the "net effective price" once you factor in the free month of rent being offered as an incentive. (The actual rent is technically $15,950.)
The master bedroom includes a "dressing closet" and en-suite bathroom, and the building is friendly to roommate shares as well as pets, with no condo board approval or package needed to apply. (Presumably if you can come up with almost $15,000/month in rent, you're legit.)
The pricing is pretty pie in the sky, but as we head towards drinking-wine-on-rooftops season, a setup like this starts to look awfully enticing...
