A classic-ten with a Park Avenue address

We're going old school with this week's co-op pick, which checks off many a co-op buyer's must-haves. Classic prewar bones, like coffered ceilings, herringbone parquet flooring, and woodburning fireplaces? Check. Architectural provenance, such as the Bing & Bing brothers as builders? Check. Park Avenue address? Check.

This four-bedroom, five-bath at 555 Park Avenue, listed with Halstead Property, is a maisonette, a first-floor apartment that has its own private entrance separate from the lobby. (Read more on maisonettes here.) Many of them are grand in scale and, consequently, are priced accordingly. (This one's a ten-room, 4000-square-foot duplex, and is asking $7.995 million.)

Aside from the aforementioned bonafides, the property has a few other sumptuous perks, including a wood-paneled room with miles of shelves that would make it a bibliophile's dream.

The bedrooms are scaled generously—the dressing room alone is the size of a small studio!

Pictures don't capture all you need to know about a space before buying, so do your due diligence. But from these photos alone, if what you're looking for is old-world elegance, this just might do.
