Phoenicia, New York, is one of the Catskill Mountains' most popular destinations. The hamlet, located in the town of Shandaken, has a main street with eateries and galleries, and access to a slew of hiking trails.

Indeed, Phoenicia is a hiker's paradise. Places to check out include Kaaterskill Falls, a 260-foot waterfall you can access via a short hike; Tanbark Trail, which is right in town; Overlook Mountain, a 4.6-mile trek near Woodstock; and the Hunter Mountain hiking trail in nearby West Kill. Phoenicia's also a prime spot for tubing, thanks to its proximity to Esopus Creek. You can rent tubes in town (they'll also bus you to the top of the creek).

Great outdoor activities aside, Phoenicia also has a couple of good spots to eat at—the Phoenicia Diner is a classic, serving up locally-sourced grub since the 1980s, but there's also Brio's Pizzeria and Peekamoose, which is a little more upscale. Phoenicia is also a quick drive to the town of Woodstock, which is full of quirky shops, cafes, and other fun stuff.

The area is home to a number of beautiful mountain houses, including this three-bedroom, three-bath mountain house at 6 Willa Lane in Shandaken, now on the market for $715,000. The house sits on five private acres and comes with its own artificial lake, and opens with an airy two-floor ceiling, wood-walled great room.

The massive stone fireplace and high ceilings make the space feel very camp lodge-like, and sliding doors to an outdoor deck provide generous natural light.

The steel and stone staircase is a nice modern touch.

The kitchen, located just off the great room, has custom hickory cabinets, soapstone counters, stainless steel appliances, and a breakfast bar.

In the basement, there's a game with tiled floors, a Malm fireplace, and a pool table.

There's also a wet bar with two Sub-Zero wine fridges, a mini-fridge, and an ice maker.

The master bedroom, located on the upstairs level, has vaulted ceilings and a balcony with mountain views.

There's a sunken Jacuzzi in the master bath.

The other bedrooms have vaulted ceilings as well, and one has a skylight.

There's a stone sink and glass shower in one of the other baths.

Outdoor space includes a wraparound deck with space for al-fresco dining.

The lake is 15-feet deep and has a swimming dock.

There's also a lovely yard.

The current owners have set up a lounge spot by the lake.

There's an extra parcel with hookups for underground electric and water, if you've got an RV or want to build an extra guesthouse.

And here's the private driveway.

The house is a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Manhattan, or you can take a Trailways Bus from Port Authority.
