Long Beach, New York, is a barrier island that protects the south shore of Long Island. Nicknamed “The City by the Sea,” it's home to a beautiful, 3.3-mile-long beach with a boardwalk, as well as restaurants, bars, shops, art galleries, and surf schools.

In the adjacent hamlet of Lido Beach, you'll find a public golf course. Point Lookout, at one tip of the island, is where you can go for fresh seafood at restaurants on the water like Fisherman's Catch or Point Lookout Clam Bar.
Note that as a barrier island, Long Beach was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy in 2012; the boardwalk had to be rebuilt, and the city recently constructed a dune on the beach to protect it.
