If you’re looking for a two bedroom in an area of Manhattan that is still comparatively affordable, why not hop the A train to Washington Heights, where you might actually be able to buy a decent-sized apartment without breaking the bank.

According to StreetEasy, the median price for a two bedroom in the (extremely) uptown neighborhood is $585,000—far less than the Manhattan median price of $999,000, per Douglas Elliman's fourth quarter report for Manhattan sales. And savings aren’t the only thing you’ll get by living “In the Heights.”

Musical theater lovers can geek out at the oldest house in Manhattan, the Morris-Jumel Mansion,  which served as a temporary headquarters for George Washington in 1776, and where Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote portions of “Hamilton.” Outdoorsy types can spend their days at the 160-acre Fort Washington Park, which has baseball fields, basketball, handball, and tennis courts, dog-friendly areas, playgrounds, and barbecuing areas. And foodies can enjoy the Dominican fare at La Casa Del Mofongo and the cuisine of Spain’s Galician region at Manolo Tapas.

If all that sounds good to you, here are five Washington Heights two bedrooms that can be yours for $855,000 (and some for a lot less). The apartments have upgrades and modern conveniences too.
