Northampton, Massachusetts, home to Smith College and within a few miles of several other major institutions like Amherst College and the University of Massachusetts, has a quirky, college-town vibe. The 28,500-population town has an ample number of art galleries, cute cafes, eclectic eateries, and booksellers like Broadside Bookshop. Northampton also has a number of popular music venues, like the Iron Horse and Bishop's Lounge, along with plenty of drinking holes for locals and college kids alike.

If any of that sounds appealing to you, consider this four-bedroom, two-bath house at 242 South St., now on the market for $489,000 and located about a three-minute drive from Main Street. The farmhouse-style abode was built in 1900, and has a number of modern updates. There's also a renovated space where the owner has a business that offers acupuncture, Chinese medicine and yoga classes, so the energy flow here is likely very positive.

There's a lovely kitchen with stainless steel appliances and a blue and white motif.

Just off the kitchen is a bath decorated with bright paint and a wood plank wall.

There's a separate dining room with big bay windows.

The dining room leads into a well-lit living space with matching paint, though you could certainly change that if you wanted to mix it up a little.

Here's a long shot of both rooms:

There's another bedroom with a funky lofted bed.

The property is about a three-hour drive from New York, and a two-hour drive from Boston. There are also a number of buses to Northampton out of Port Authority.
