Here's an opportunity to rent a Downtown Brooklyn apartment for $867 a month
Applications are open for 37 discounted apartments in a new building at the corner of Flatbush Avenue and Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn (okay, technically Fort Greene), available through the city housing lottery.
The apartments are studios and one and two bedrooms set aside for households making $33,875-$56,340 a year. Rents start at $867 a month, for a studio. The building is 19 stories tall and the rest of the apartments in it will rent for market rates. The first two floors will be stores.
Full income eligibility and rent details are here.
The apartments will have washers and dryers, and the building is described as having a lounge, a landscaped roof deck, and for an additional fee, a gym.
To say 1 Flatbush Ave. is centrally located is an understatement. It's steps from the Nevins Street 2, 3, 4, 5 stop and the Dekalb Avenue B, Q, R stop, and just a few blocks from Atlantic Terminal, and the A, C, and G at Hoyt-Schermerhorn. The extensive shopping options of Fulton Mall start just across Flatbush Avenue, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music, Fort Greene Park, and Long Island University are also all within a few blocks. The bars and restaurants of Fulton Street in Fort Greene are a short walk away, too.
If you're interested and think you might qualify for one of these apartments, you can create a profile and apply online via NYC Housing Connect. For details on this particular lottery, click here. Don't apply more than once, or you could be disqualified.
