Apply to rent a Greenpoint apartment for $1,000 a month

Three discounted apartments are available in a new building in Greenpoint through the city housing lottery.
The apartments are one bedrooms at 977 Manhattan Ave., an eight-story, otherwise market-rate building with a gym, a bike room, laundry, and storage. The available units are set aside for one- and two-person households making $34,972-$50,100 a year. Rent is set at $1,020 a month.
The building that this new development replaced sold for $4.1 million in 2015. At the time, the developer planned to build condos, but the company now seems to have opted to take advantage of 421-a tax breaks for making it a mixed-income rental building. The new building is now on the market for $14.25 million.
It's three blocks to the Greenpoint Avenue G station, and three long blocks to the new India Street ferry pier, with service to East 34th Street and the Financial District.
