This alcove studio in Jackson Heights comes with a surprisingly big kitchen
The living space isn't huge, but the bed area is positioned in such a way that it could possibly be partitioned off into a true bedroom.
The price on this alcove studio at 34-15 74th St. in Jackson Heights recently dropped by $30,000. It’s now listed for $259,000.
The living area of the 550-square-foot unit looks spacious, relatively, and has large windows facing north and east, making it noticeably bright. As the room is currently arranged, there’s a small seating area with a couch, a chair, and a wall unit holding a TV, as well as a narrow two-seater table when you first walk in.
The apartment's original hardwood floors have been refinished, and look to be in good shape, but are yellowish enough to make them appear dated. A new coat of stain that could render them either lighter or darker, and tone down that golden hue.
Further into the apartment is the alcove, a decent-sized space that seems as though it could easily be made into a real bedroom by building a wall between it and the living room. You’d lose the light from the windows by the bed, of course, but that’s a trade-off many would probably be willing to make.
The windowed kitchen is big for a studio. It has dark granite counters, lots of cabinets, a pretty maroon backsplash, and full-sized stainless steel appliances—including a dishwasher. The black tiled floors seem a bit too dark for this space, but they’re shiny, and look easy to clean, which is always a plus. The orange walls and radiator are admittedly offbeat, but it would only take a fresh coat of paint or two to make them more palatable if they're not your speed.
The bathroom also has a window, and seems functional, but looks as though it was done on the cheap. There’s a no-frills, industrial-looking toilet in here, as well as a vanity that looks anything but custom. But hey, it can probably actually hold a lot of stuff.
Finally, the state of the floor seems pretty dire, but it’s hard to tell if it needs to be replaced completely or just requires a good scrubbing.
The apartment is in The Wilshire House, a pet-friendly co-op building with a live-in super, on-site laundry, private storage, and a parking garage. Maintenance is $427 a month.
