5 types of exercise equipment small enough for New York City apartments
The road to hell might be paved with good intentions, but it's still tempting to trot out the old "get fit/lose weight" goal in the new year. The fact that most of us don't have finished basements, man/woman caves, or the odd spare room to fill with treadmills and the like doesn't make it any easier to keep those resolutions. But don't despair: we sought out some of the best fitness equipment with the smallest footprint, to help you be your best, healthiest self in 2018.
1. Stamina InMotion Compact Eliptical
The irony that the model in the picture is using this equipment in what looks like a giant, empty house is not lost on us, but the equipment, measuring 24 inches long and 17 inches wide, is still a good choice for small-space living. It includes a digital monitor to help you track your efforts. ($139)
2. Perfect Fitness Multi-Gym Doorway Pull Up Bar and Portable Gym System (pictured at top)
All you need is a doorway and some upper body strength to get ripped with this bar. Do pull-ups, sit ups, and even dips. ($40)
3. Elite Sportz Exercise Sliders
These take-anywhere discs have earned an average four-and-a-half star review from 1,124 Amazon shoppers. The idea is to use them for core exercises that involve sliding your hands and feet along the ground. Given that you don't leave the ground, it's as low impact as you can get. And at less than $15, it's a pretty low-commitment purchase. ($13)
4. Perfect Fitness Ab Carver Pro Roller for Core Workouts
Another Perfect Fitness product that's well-reviewed, this compact ab roller could help make that six-pack aspiration a reality, or at least burn off some of the holiday meal flab. You can scale up the intensity of your workouts with "beginner", "intermediate", and "expert" postures. ($30)
5. WOD Nation Speed Jump Rope
This isn't your school kid's jump rope. The WOD Nation jump rope is, as the name implies, fast and designed for boxers, MMA enthusiasts, and regular folks. It's adjustable to fit adult and kid jumpers, and comes in a rainbow of colors. If you have downstairs neighbors, you'll want to consider the hours they keep before you hop to it. ($22.34)
