The least expensive apartment in this roundup, at $465,000, this Astoria, Queens, two-bedroom is close to the borough's top school.

In honor of the first full week of the school year, we present you with five apartments currently for sale that are both big enough for a family (two bedrooms and up) and walking distance from the five public elementary schools with the highest scores. All five of these schools are specialized, and four are for "gifted" children, meaning that your child will have to take the city's Gifted and Talented test and score very high to get in. But there are also good zoned schools available nearby, too. From Astoria to the Upper West Side, here's where you can visit an open house this weekend.

315 West 70th St., Upper West Side. Sure it could use a little bit of an update, but this two-bedroom, two-bath co-op has lots of windows in the living room and is on the 15th floor in a full-service building. It's also about five blocks away from the Special Music School on 67th Street, number one on our list for test scores. If your kid doesn't have the musical talent needed, you're still zoned for PS 199, one of InsideSchools' staff picks.

Asking price: $1.395 million

Open house: Sunday, September 17th, 3-4:30 p.m.

109 Norfolk St., Lower East Side. If your kid is lucky enough to get into NEST+M (meaning they score above 97 percent on the city's Gifted and Talented test and win the lottery for the school), and you buy this two-bedroom, two-bath condo you'll only have 10 blocks to walk. You'll also be zoned for PS 142, which is even closer. A keyed elevator opens directly into the apartment for that extra little bit of luxury.

Asking price: $2.195 million

Open house: Sunday, September 17th, noon-1:30 p.m.

161 East 110th St., East Harlem. Third on the best-test-scores list is TAG Young Scholars, which has the same tough requirements as NEST+M. Only here you can buy this two-bedroom, two-bath penthouse condo with stainless steel appliances for much less. If you're not going the TAG route, your child is zoned for PS 83, another InsideSchools pick.

Asking price: $1. 3 million

Open house: Sunday, September 17th, 1-2 p.m.

150 West 87th St, Upper West Side. The Anderson School—third on the list, and as hard to get into as the two schools previously mentioned—is just 10 blocks away from this three-bedroom, two-bath co-op with a washer/dryer in the unit. If you don't get in there, PS 166, your zoned school, is an InsideSchools pick too, and it's just two blocks away.

Asking price: $1.38 million

Open house: Sunday, September 17th, 1-2 p.m.
