A cleverly designed (and cool) East Village co-op with an "extra" bathroom
In New York City, smart design goes a long way, which is why we were immediately taken with this duplex loft in the East Village. And if we had to pinpoint the moment we thought this $995,000 one-bedroom, two-bath was a gem it was probably when we saw how cleverly a washing machine is hidden into one of its two bathrooms:
But, of course, that's not it. The corner apartment is about 1,000 square feet, and judging by the floorplan it could rather easily be converted into a two-bedroom. There are charming details like beamed ceilings, smart custom storage, exposed brick and treetop views of East First Street between First and Second Avenue, a pretty tree-lined street that's also walking distance from some amazing restaurants and bars.
According to the listing there are 13 new windows, with North, West, and Southwest exposures. The kitchen appears to be totally renovated, and if you look closely you can see clever details throughout the kitchen (including a tower rack placed under the counter, a mounted wine rack, and extra drawers). It feels as though, throughout the whole apartment, almost every empty space was dedicated to storage. That's something we—as people with a lot of stuff—can get behind.
If you're looking for a totally non-cookie cutter place in a seriously fun neighborhood, this might be it.
Note, the 1910 building is a walk-up, and of course, there's a spiral staircase inside that connects the apartment's two floors. But assuming you're willing to climb, this place may seriously up your cool cred.
