Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens too pricey? Check out this two-bedroom in Hoboken
This week on Brick Underground, we've tried to provide you with all the information you, the new college graduate, need to have to navigate New York City's real estate market and its neighborhoods. But if you've come to the end of the week with the conclusion that the city is just a tad too expensive for you, know that you may have options on the other side of the River.
Hoboken, New Jersey, for one, is a town that's always been popular with recent college graduates. The reasons are three-fold: First, there's the relatively quick commute to Manhattan (via the PATH train), which, at around 20 minutes, is shorter than it is from many neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Queens. Then, there's the fact that the area is bustling with bars, music venues and restaurants (Washington Street is the main drag for that). And, finally, the prices are more affordable—and spaces more generous—than parts on the five boroughs.
Case in point, this 1,000-square-foot two-bedroom, two-bath in Hoboken that's asking $2,900 a month. While $1,450 per person, if you're roommating, isn't cheap by any means, you're getting a lot more bang for your buck here. And you'd be living in a modern building with amenities.
The apartment appears to have lots of windows, an open kitchen (some photos have stainless appliances, others not, so we can't say for sure), and a breakfast bar, and according to the listing, there's a washer and dryer in the unit. Two full-sized bathrooms are a nice perk for living with a roommate (or if you're alone and expect guests or need an office, or are a small family).
The building has a gym, and a large communal roofdeck with lounge chairs and barbecues. Plus, the listing indicates that the landlord is offering up to two months free. At $2,900 a month, that's no small change.
