A totally non-cookie-cutter Upper East Side co-op that'll appeal to brownstone fans
As coveted as the Upper East Side may be, there's no denying that its apartments can be rather cookie-cutter (you know the box-like, white brick building-style apartments we're talking about, right?). That's why this new-to-market $695,000 duplex one-bedroom on East 84th Street, between First Avenue and York Avenue, caught our eye.
First, it has two bathrooms, a true rarity in a one-bedroom. It also boasts a woodburning fireplace, a kitchen with what appears to be a decent amount of storage space, and stainless steel appliances, and a bedroom with enough space for a king-sized bed and more furniture. The fact that the bedroom is on its own floor—accessed by a winding staircase—below the kitchen and living room feels kind of cozy, too.
Even though that bedroom is on the ground floor, there's still a window. (Maybe we've been in New York City too long, but we really appreciate a duplex that's not partly subterranean.)
The apartment's in a brownstone with laundry (right outside the bedroom floor actually), and happens to be on a really pretty tree-lined block. Plus, thanks to the new Q train extension, it's only about three blocks from the subway. It's also very close to to Carl Schurz Park and the East River Esplanade.
