Households that include senior citizens can now apply for a new set of affordable rentals at Essex Crossing
Another building at Essex Crossing—a massive Lower East Side development that upon completion will comprise 1.9 million square feet of residential, retail, and community space—has opened applications for more affordable apartments on NYC's Housing Connect site. Of the 1,000 new apartments to be built on the site, 500 will be affordable; the city is already holding a lottery for 104 of them.
These new 99 units are designated as senior housing, which means households with at least one member who is 55 or older at the time of application are eligible. Renters who earn 30 percent of the area median income (up to $21,750), to those who earn 90 percent of the AMI (between $44,949 and $65,250) are qualified to apply for the available one-bedrooms.

Building amenities include an on-site super, laundry facilities, a bike room, outdoor community space, and residential community rooms. The Essex Crossing site also notes easy access to cultural attractions, park space, and transit.
Note that 50 percent of these units are reserved for current residents of the neighborhood, which in this case is Manhattan's Community Board 3.
