This opulent Rockaway Park mansion will have you dreaming of warmer days
When most people think of beach houses in the Rockaways, they envision something along the lines of a small-but-sunny beachfront bungalow. But lest we forget, there's a whole other genre of houses that can be found in the waterfront neigbhorhoods of Brooklyn and Queens: the ultra-luxe, 80s-glam mansion. And this week's Townhouse Pick is definitely the latter.
The four-bedroom, three-bathroom house is asking $3.3 million, and makes quite the dramatic (if specific) impression, with Corinthian-style columns in the front, and a pink marble entry foyer right through the main entrance. It's not for everybody, that's for sure, but there's a certain retro charm to it, especially if you long for the American Psycho area. And we give props to any property whose owners don't renovate the personality out of it.
The home seems to have ample space for entertaining, with a separate den, enclosed terrace, and a fully landscaped backyard:
There's more hosting space in the finished basement, as well, with an entertainment area and wet bar, as well as a children's playroom, an extra guest room, and laundry facilities.
On a more practical note, the home has been recently renovated with a new boiler, wiring, and central air, meaning you shouldn't have too many expensive surprise repairs in store after you first buy.
Unless you've been hoping to move to the Rockaways full time, consider this the ideal option for a luxe place to take family or friends when no one has time to leave the five boroughs.
