Hover above the East River in this three-bedroom LIC rental
New, glassy high-rises abound in Long Island City, but this development has a bit more street cred than some of the recent ones cropping up. Called Citylights, the property was built back in 1996 right on the waterfront, and from the high-floor vantage of this three-bedroom, two-bath rental, the views of the East River are impressive. The unit is listed by Town Residential for $8,500 per month, a bit steep for Queens, but then you are getting 2,000 square feet of space—plus two balconies—for the price.
The open living area is almost vertigo-inducing, thanks to oversized windows providing wraparound city and river vistas, but we could definitely get used to the views. We like the built-in seating, too, which looks like a great reading nook. The sprawling floor space and high ceilings make it easy to create separate sitting and dining areas, and the kitchen gives a strong impression with its cherry red cabinetry.
Each of the three bedrooms get ample sunlight and offer more views; two have direct balcony access, and all include en-suite baths. A fourth space is currently configured as an office, but could serve as a nursery or guest room.
The color scheme in the bath pictured here won't please everybody, but it does offer a certain boldness that you don't tend to find in more cookie-cutter deveopments.
Note that the rental also includes an in-unit washer and dryer, and an entry foyer with closet space. Building amenities include full-time doorman and concierge service, garage parking, a gym, and a roof deck.
