For the median price of a Manhattan apartment, this North Fork five-bedroom is yours (but expect guests)

According to the most recent Douglas Elliman market report, the median price of a Manhattan apartment is down to $1.05 million. For almost exactly that amount of money, you could also snag this Colonial-style five-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath house in Cutchogue, a town in the North Fork.

The house, listed by Sotheby's International Realty, has clearly been recently updated, and it features a heated gunite pool, too.

It's also in the agricultural North Fork area, near vineyards, farms, and beaches (and about 100 miles from the city, which should take you less travel time than the Hamptons). This is the place to go if your idea of summering includes farm stands, quaint inns, horse trails, and the bay.

Sporting a country-chic look, the house has a fireplace, its fair share of built-ins and a huge eat-in kitchen that's so appealing we're ready to pack up our bags and move now. And the well-manicured grounds (shown above) are not too shabby, either.

In short, this is the kind of house your friends will be happy to visit as often as you ask.
