Townhouse pick of the week

This brand-new townhouse in the West Village is a Manhattan real estate unicorn

As a rule, buying a West Village townhouse means scooping up a quaint old property with plenty of charm and history, but also likely some inconvenient older features, and expensive upkeep. Enter the Printing House, a conversion project—it's a former industrial building—on Hudson Street with a mix of high-design mews, townhouses, and maisonettes.

A private landscaped street features two townhomes (in addition to three maisonettes) that include 24-hour doorman and concierge service, Nest thermostat technology, access to the in-building Printing House Equinox, membership to the Children's Museum of the Arts, and free services from dog daycare Biscuits and Bath.

One of those four-bedroom, six-and-a-half-bath townhouses is still on the market—asking $13.125 million—and from the looks of it, combines the best of its old-world location with new-construction convenience. (Think elevators, gas-burning fireplaces, and a rooftop terrace.) The main floor features a spacious open kitchen, as well as a dining and entertaining area with large floor-to-ceiling windows.

The master suite, bedrooms, and children's playroom are located on the upper floors:

On the top level, there's a study as well as a nicely laid out roof deck:

Giving the staging of the children's room and the extra membership to the museum, we can see the appeal for buyers with a family in tow.

Then again, this house would also do nicely as an ultra-wealthy bachelor (or bachelorette's) party pad. Just sayin'.
