Apply now for affordable apartments starting at $834 in Ocean Hill
Ocean Hill, a Bedford-Stuyvesant micro-neighborhood, has until recently remained less developed than other, more in-demand corners of Brooklyn. In April, however, the City Council approved a rezoning plan for East New York that includes Ocean Hill, designed to promote affordable housing and economic growth. As New York Magazine reported in an article about the area's gentrification, however, many new affordable units that go up in the city remain out of reach for the lowest-income residents of the neighborhoods in which they're built.
That said, 27 new affordable units, spread across two neighborhood buildings called the Henry Apartments, are available through the Low-Income Affordable Marketplace Program, designed for people earning 60 percent of the area median income. According to the listing on NYC Housing Connect, one-, two-, and three-bedrooms are available, starting at $834 per month for individuals making at least $29,966 a year. Preference for 40 percent of the units goes to applicants who live in the area, which in this case is Brooklyn's Community Board 16. See below for more details:
The properties are at 1676 Broadway and 8 Rockaway Avenue, just around the corner from each other, and close to the Chauncey Street J/Z train. The listing notes that the buildings include 24-hour security, outdoor space, a community room, computer lounge, bike storage, and on-site laundry. There are no renderings available of apartment interiors, but New York YIMBY has some images of one building's exterior.
