Escape to the beach without leaving the city in a brand-new Sea Gate townhouse
Whether you want to move to the beach full-time or just have an easily accessible escape from the 9-to-5 daily grind, it may be time to take your search to the southern tip of Brooklyn. A newly constructed four-bedroom, four-bath house marketed by Engel & Volkers has just hit the market in Sea Gate (the waterfront neighborhood just west of Coney Island), and has all the high tech amenities you'd expect from a ground-up abode. To start, there are extras like radiant-heat floors, a glass elevator that goes to all four floors, and an in-house spa and sauna.
Located in a gated community, the home also has its own private beach, and a variety of decks and balconies facing the water, including one on the roof and a private landing and balcony in the master suite.
Given its location right on the waterfront, developers have taken care to make the home as storm-proof as possible, outfitting the place with "hurricane-resistant windows" that can handle winds up to 200 miles per hour, as well as a protective sea wall that extends 20 feet below the sand and a concrete fence that's higher than flood level. Similarly, the electrical systems for the home are all situated on higher levels, a must in waterfront properties. The house also has some green construction details, including noise-canceling insulation, and energy-efficient heating and cooling systems.
What else to consider? There are two full gourmet kitchens, a "skylight room," and private parking space for two cars. While most of the home has pretty sparse decor at the moment (meaning you can decorate to your own tastes), we did notice that each of the bathrooms seems to have its own personality:
Unsurprisingly, none of this comes cheap, and the asking price—$2,999,999—is at least $1 million higher than anything else on the market in the neighborhood. But perhaps a small price to pay if this is your ideal waterfront fortress?
