This Sutton Place condo has housed many of New York's rich and famous.

Recently, 57th Street has come to be known as "Billionaires' Row" for its attention-grabbing, luxury skyscrapers that have risen between Seventh and Park avenues, but this Sutton Place four-bedroom feels light years away. The property was built in 1927, making the apartment a rare prewar condo, and its historic details were preserved during a recent renovation. Celebrities have chosen this building among the many lovely ones in the area to call home—Marilyn Monroe, Arthur Miller, and a Swedish princess have all lived here—and the street cred that comes with its famous residents may be behind the $6.295 million asking price, listed with Douglas Elliman.

You can't welcome your royal neighbors into your home without a grand entry foyer, and this one, with its high ceilings and dark wood floors, makes a strong impression. It leads to a sunny corner living room with a working fireplace, and ample space for entertaining.

The kitchen looks huge even by luxury condo standards, and has been remodeled to the nines with new appliances, plentiful, gleaming counter space, a bright breakfast area, and a so-called "butler's pantry"—that is, a small storage room that leads into the dining area. Like the living room, the dining room benefits from a corner position that brings in lots of sunlight; the listing notes that this condo has north, south, east, and west exposures.

Although it isn't pictured here, a major selling point of the master bedoom is its wall of closets. Its ensuite bath is decked out with marble tile, double sinks, a soaking tub, and the rather European detail of a bidet. There are three additional bedrooms, which include a maid's room that may be better suited as an office.

The apartment has central air and an in-unit washer and dryer; the building itself promises "white-glove amenities," and includes 24-hour doorman service.
