Got modern tastes and a brownstone budget? Check out this Manhattan Valley house
If you're one of those people whose real estate fantasies vacillate between charming brownstone and shiny new penthouse, this $6.15 million five-bedroom renovated townhouse may be the right compromise.
Located on Manhattan Avenue, between West 105th and West 106th Streets, the Queen Anne-style townhouse was given a total makeover by architects Hariri & Hariri. The new facade is modern, as is the interior, which boasts five floors, including a top-floor, skylit bonus room (perfect for guests, a gym, office, or swanky nanny quarters, perhaps) that also happens to lead to a terrace with Central Park views, pictured below.
The open chef's kitchen, located on the house's garden floor, has two Sub-Zero refrigerators and a wine fridge, which is key, considering this house seems built for entertaining.
The formal dining room, which is also on the garden floor, has double-height ceilings and a wall of windows overlooking a landscaped garden, complete with an automated irrigation system and built-in Wolf outdoor grill. (That second level you're seeing in the photo above is a library nook.)
The parlor floor has a living room with a woodburning fireplace and the aforementioned library nook. In its current configuration, the second floor has two split bedrooms and a larger third bedroom, as well as a limestone bathroom with a double vanity, and an adjacent sitting area.
The third floor holds the master bedroom (complete with a wood-burning fireplace) and his and hers closets. There's another bedroom and en-suite bathroom on this floor.
There are a lot of stairs to climb if you buy this house, but it's a price we're willing to pay. Especially, considering there's also a schlep-free modern dumbwaiter system servicing all floors (!).
