Take It Or Leave It

A generously sized, charmingly no-frills Sunnyside one-bedroom for $2,100

This 2,100 one-bedroom in Sunnyside has pretty prewar details like hardwood floors, built-in shelving, and arched doorways. It's on the fifth floor of an elevator building with laundry facilities, a bike room and a live-in super.

And, according to the listing, it's got Manhattan views from two windows. It's also only a couple of blocks from the 7 train, which will get you into Manhattan in about 20 minutes.

The price, though reasonable when you're comparing it to Brooklyn and Manhattan, is slightly higher than the neighborhood median.

So is it worth the move? We asked our experts (and veteran renters), RentHackr founder Zeb Dropkin and freelance writer Lambeth Hochwald, to weigh in with me on this week's Take It or Leave It.

Size: One-bedroom
Location:  45-22 43rd Avenue (between 45th and 46th streets)
Cost: $2,100
Flexible layout: Yes
Days on the market: 3
Subway: 7 at Bliss Street-46th Street

"I appreciate one-bedrooms that are true one-bedrooms and this one is. Plus, it's got a separate eat-in kitchen you're not going to get in $2,100 apartments in other parts of the city. The downside for some may be the location, but Sunnyside is a diverse, bustling neighborhood worth checking out. " —Lucy

"This is a solid one-bed with pretty good space, wood floors, elevator, and other amenities. The downside is it's pretty far out in Sunnyside, the kitchen looks small, and the general finish is older." —Zeb

"Brick lovers unite! While this listing promises Manhattan views from two windows, it seems more apparent that there are more brick walls to be seen from the windows of this Sunnyside one-bed than a dazzling skyline. The place does have some appealing details, however, if you're a fan of arches and hardwood floors." —Lambeth

Who would this apartment be perfect for?

"A couple on a budget who want a decent amount of space for their money. Extra points if one of them works near Grand Central, which would be an easy commute." —Lucy

"Good for a renter who needs more space for the money than they can get closer to downtown, and someone who's commute won't be too bad from the 7 train. " —Zeb

"A  couple who don't mind a bit of a commute into Manhattan and love the diversity of the neighborhood. After all, this apartment is right atop Sunny Grocery, which bills itself as Turkish, American and European, as well as Chang's Acupuncture right next door." —Lambeth

The verdict(s):

TAKE IT "Assuming you check out the neighborhood first and like it, this is a more than decent apartment for the price, especially considering how close it is to the subway." —Lucy

TAKE IT "This no frills one-bedroom in Sunnyside looks like a good choice on a budget." —Zeb

LEAVE IT "Unless Sunnyside's been on your neighborhood must-try bucket list." —Lambeth
