Autumn in New York: arguably the best season to be in the city. And  now that we are smack dab in the middle of New York’s extreme seasons—summer and winter—we asked five New Yorkers: Would you rather get rid of New York City summers or winters?

  • Feeling the heat I hate winters, actually. I’m originally from Pennsylvania and I hated winters there, too. Honestly, what am I even still doing on the east coast? So, I’d definitely get rid of the winter, if I could. Fall is okay, but I love the warmth of summer. —Kelsey, Harlem (pictured at left)
  • Let it go! Let it go!  I love the winter, actually. Almost, better than the fall. Maybe that’s because, since I live in the city, I don’t have to deal with shoveling the snow in front of my building, or driving on snowy, pot-holey streets everyday. The subway works just fine in the winter. Just one of the perks of living in the city, I guess. Another perk: I don’t have to pay to heat my apartment. But best of it all? Central Park in the winter, and all the shop windows around the holidays. The city is touched by magic! Seriously. I wrote a thesis on NYC’s holiday shop windows. Didn’t make it less magical for me.  —Sarah, Yorkville

  • Hate winter? Bah, humbug! I would get rid of New York summers. There is something magical about the winter and New York City. A chance for people to get in touch with their inner child and enjoy the holiday spirit. Plus, I hate the summer humidity. —Robert, Upper East Side (pictured at left)
  • Perks of being bi-coastal I hate the winter. I’m  partly bi-coastal now, because of work. And the only reason I see why it may be a good thing I have to leave New York for L.A. sometimes is that I hate the winter. Hate it. I hate the cold. So, I’m looking forward to being able to leave this insanely, brutally cold and miserable city in the winter time. —Natalie, Upper East Side
  • Next level winter I moved here from Florida in May, and this fall weather is already getting to me. I don’t even own proper winter clothes yet! I seriously need some advice on what I need to get, because I have no idea. I keep hearing horror stories about New York winters. I mean, I’ve lived in cold places, but it sounds like New York’s got some next level sh** going on in the winters. —Diane, Long Island City

Verdict: Elsa can take her wintry magic and shove it.
