Another reason you never need to buy a car: Car2Go is expanding to Queens

Getting around this city isn't always easy (especially when you're attempting to hop from one borough to another). So it's no surprise that myriad companies and apps are trying to ease the headache for consumers. There are the taxi alternatives (like Uber and Via), the CitiBike bicycle-sharing program, and car-sharing ZipCar, among many others (parking apps and services are  also popping up all the time).

But there's one newer car-share service you may never have heard of: Car2Go, which according to Crains, will expand to Queens (it's currently just in Brooklyn) on August 29.

Car2Go provides two-person SmartCars that can be picked up at one spot and dropped off at another (similar to CitiBike, but different to ZipCar, where cars have to be picked up and returned to the same garage). In addition to the upcoming Queens expansion, Crains reports that the company eventually hopes to cover all five boroughs.

For now, "The company will add 100 Smart cars to the 450 now in Brooklyn, and it expects Queens to bring an additional 25,000 members. There are currently more than 30,000 in Brooklyn," reports Crains.

Given their tiny size, of course, Car2Go cars aren't meant for Ikea or Costco hauls. On the plus side: Parking will be significantly easier since you don't need a very big spot.

Users can locate and reserve cars with a mobile app.  The rate is 41-cents-a-minute (topping out at $15/hour). Like ZipCar, Car2Go covers gas.

It might just be time to dust off that driver's license.
