Furniture sale site AptDeco launches "Design for Me" feature
There's another website out there that may help you avoid paying for a pricey interior designer. AptDeco, a NYC-based site that allows you to buy and sell used furniture, today launches a new, free feature called Designed for Me for those in the market to spruce up their apartments, but not a lot of time to do it.
"We spoke to customers who often say they love the furniture but didn’t have the time to look through all the pieces," AptDeco founder Reham Fagiri told us. Each day, about 200 to 500 pieces are uploaded to the site, many are antiques, most are name brands, like West Elm, Crate & Barrel and Restoration Hardware. A service that weeds through the offerings is something "our customers have asked for," says Faigiri.
Users select the room they're looking to furnish, their style (i.e. contemporary or traditional), their favorite brands, the items they’re in the market for (e.g. chairs or sofas etc.), favorite brands, price range and a photo of their home and AptDeco provides interior design advice with suggested products.
In case you were wondering, to make sure you're not buying (or selling) a dud, AptDeco verifies pieces at pick-up. They also offer pretty cheap delivery in NYC — $20 per item for smaller items and $74 per item for large items. If you're buying more than one piece from the same person, it's $74 for the first item and $25 for all other items.
For sellers, it's free to list a piece on AptDeco, and fees are between 14 and 19 percent when an item sells. If your piece doesn't sell and you need to get rid of it, AptDeco will help you donate it, Fagiri says.
