In small apartments, any vertical space that can serve as a storage area is your friend. This origami wall planter does double-duty, acting as both a way to bring greenery into your abode and, when combined in multiples, a nifty shelving system.

Each biodegradable, recyclable, waterproof planter holds 20 pounds, so you can use several on a wall to hold everything from kids' art supplies to fruit (an update to that old fruit basket, anyone?). The planters are shipped flat in an envelope, then you fold them into their 3D shape.

The creators are raising funds on Kickstarter, and a $12 pledge will get you a single planter. With 15 days to go, they've exceeded their goal of $1,000 by about $600.
