Dress up your pup like the pope, win free stuff from a NYC landlord
Finding a landlord that welcomes your dog with open arms—and, you know, doesn't make you carry Rover every time you cross the lobby—isn't the easiest thing to do in New York, let alone finding one who'll reward your proud pet owner status. So when we heard that landlord and property manager Rose Associates was holding a pet costume contest—and giving out prizes to everyone who enters—we were intrigued (and eager for pics, obviously). "Not all of our buildings allow pets, but we do have many pet-friendly buildings and we thought this would be fun for everyone," a spokesperson for Rose tells us.
OK, to be fair, our interest may have had more to do with the dachshunds dressed as Thing 1 and Thing 2 or the teacup Yorkie in full Pope regalia, pictures of which you can peruse above. In the early entries, you can already see certain themes emerging, with multiple pooches dressed up as devils, spiders and Batdogs, plus a peeved-looking cat and dog in "Sharknado" ensembles. Bonus points to the pet owner who wrangled her two guinea pigs into costumes.
At last count, 44 people had entered. The contest is open to everyone, although most of the promotion has been geared towards Rose's employees and residents of the buildings it manages, the spokesperson says. You can enter through Nov. 15, and interested parties can vote for their favorites once a day through Rose's Facebook page or at this link. The pet with the most votes will win a $1,000 voucher for services at Spot Canine Club, a doggie daycare, while 10 runners up will get $500 vouchers, and anyone who enters gets a $100 voucher.
