A Fort Greene duplex with a garden for the kids (and the parents)
A home with easy-to-access outdoor space is a huge plus for a family who would otherwise have to schlep to a park or playground every time the kids need air, which is why this Fort Greene two-bedroom with a private landscaped garden for $4,700 a month caught our eye.
The duplex has a split layout with one bedroom on the main floor and the other downstairs; a setup that gives adults (and kids!) their privacy. There are also two bathrooms, so no one has to wait long to use the facilities.
The main floor has an open living/dining room with handy built-ins and a pass-through to a kitchen equipped with plenty of cabinets, good counter space, a full-size stove, a dishwasher and a microwave oven. What’s more, the apartment includes a stacked washer/dryer that will make doing a family’s worth of laundry if not a breeze then easier than dragging it to a Laundromat.
The real prize, though, seems to be the garden, which is accessible via the upstairs bedroom, and has space for a dining table, per the listing photos. On the downside, the listing neglects to include images of the lower level bedroom, which could mean it’s underground with only a small window peaking out into the garden above. Plus, it’s priced significantly higher than other two bed/two baths in the neighborhood, which are renting for about $3,900 on average, according to StreetEasy.
Located in a four-story, nine-unit condo building, 115 Fort Greene Place is a block and a half from Fort Greene Park and zoned for PS 38 The Pacific School, a preK-5 school that has a great arts curriculum and small class sizes, according to InsideSchools.org, a non-profit online school resource.
