A Greenpoint pad with a pool (at non-condo prices). The catch? You have to share
Greenpoint seems to be getting more popular (and expensive) by the day, and while the area's rife with apartments tailor-made for post-grads with roommates, it's not every day you hear about one that comes with a pool (unless it's in a high-priced, ultra-luxe condo, that is).
At $3,500 a month with three bedrooms, this spot off the Nassau stop is a comparatively good deal. (Plus, the asking price recently went down.) But then, that all depends on how you feel about sharing an above-ground pool with the other neighbors in the building, and living off the ever-fickle G train.
So is this place (and its pool) worth the money? Our veteran renters—including RentHackr founder Zeb Dropkin, freelance writer Lambeth Hochwald, and BrickUnderground’s own senior contributing editor, Lucy Cohen Blatter—weigh in for this week’s Take It or Leave It.
The Apartment:

Pros and Cons:
"The apartment looks like it's a true three-bedroom, though some rooms appear to be larger and brighter than others, and the price—$3,500, which could be split between three people—is pretty reasonable. Plus, the kitchen looks newly renovated. There's also a backyard and a pool, which is a cool and rare perk, but remember that it's shared and it's above-ground. The fact that there are coolers next to it in the photo suggests to me that this is a party pad." - Lucy
"If the idea of a Greenpoint three-bedroom with a pool, albeit an above-ground one, is something you crave, it might be worth taking a closer look at this listing. On the other hand, the rest of the place looks pretty cookie cutter, though the kitchen is pretty ideal for budding cooks, and the price recently went down $295—which begs the question of why. I'm betting that it's the building's far-flung-from-anything location." - Lambeth
"This is an affordable three-bed, one-bath in Greenpoint with a relatively modern finish and a yard, replete with an above-ground pool. But one of the bedrooms looks like a very tight squeeze, one bathroom could be a pain, and that pool isn't going to be any fun after September." - Zeb
Who would this apartment be perfect for?
"A group of post-college friends who want to live—and laze around a pool—together, who will also take advantage of all the nightlife and hipness Greenpoint has to offer." - Lucy
"Three pals who dream of midnight dips." - Lambeth
"A few hip roommates who know they'll dig living in Greenpoint enough to offset living on the Ghost train. Greenpoint is a wonderful, youthful neighborhood about mid-way through its gentrification cycle." - Zeb
TAKE IT "If you and a couple of friends are looking for a communal Brooklyn living experience, this place seems as good a deal as any—plus the price was just lowered by $295, so you can feel like you're getting a steal." - Lucy
LEAVE IT "Unless you have a couple solid roommates sorted out already, and you'll actually make some pool shenanigans happen this summer." - Zeb
