The Open House Scorecard: Convertibles aren’t just for cars anymore
Who doesn’t love flexibility, especially when it comes to your living space?
Convertible apartments are all the rage in this week’s Open House Scorecard -- the 10 apartments StreetEasy.comusers saved to their open house planners this weekend.
On Central Park West between 96th and 97th, a $859k two-bedroom co-op is convertible to a three-bedroom, and the kitchen and bathroom have been renovated. New casement-style windows in the living room, dining room and master bedroom offer treetop views and side park views. The full-service building has a community garden, playroom, meeting room and fairly low maintenance ($1,400) on the unit.
Also on the UWS, on West 93rd Street and Amsterdam Avenue, is a convertible two-bedroom co-op for $1.165m. It can become a three-bedroom plus office or dining area. The master suite faces west and is connected to a dressing area. Maintenance is relatively low at $1,707, and an in-unit W/D is allowed. The catch? The kitchen and bathrooms need renovation, and there’s an additional monthly assessment of $188.26 until December 31, 2012.
About 14 blocks down on 79th between Amsterdam and Columbus Avenues, a $1.525m three-bedroom co-op can become a two-bedroom if you’re looking to downsize (and have bigger rooms). There are open southern views of the midtown Manhattan skyline. The windowed, eat-in kitchen and bathrooms have been updated. Plus, there's a dishwasher, and a W/D is allowed within the unit.
Over in Brooklyn Heights, a two-bedroom co-op is back on the market for $880k (the price has been reduced by $86k). Located in a converted church on Clinton Street between Remsen and Joralemon Streets, the apartment itself can be converted to include a home office. The corner duplex has a W/D and central air and is in move-in condition -- although the unit does need some renovation and possibly even some reconfiguration. The self-managed co-op is pet friendly and allows sublets.
