Vying for reality show stardom, NYC supers spill their "craziest" stories
The casting call is still out for an opinionated, larger-than-life building superintendent to star in a cable tv reality show.
"We've had hundreds of responses so far," said Victoria Asness of LES Casting when we asked her for a progress report this week. "The biggest challenge is finding the right person in a building that could work--we've had a lot of people who are fantastic but work in very high-end condos and co-ops."
(Co-op and condo owners tend not to be down with having their privacy invaded by a reality show, hence the ideal candidate works in a rental building, where permission to film is up to the landlord.)
Asness, meanwhile, is acquiring an education in the universal vertical living experience. Hoarders, bad tippers, residents who make 3 or 4 requests a week, and female residents requesting other "services" were among the more common responses to the question, "What is the craziest/weirdest situation that you were called for?"
And then there was this:
"One super said that in every building he's ever worked at there's a naked lady who locks herself out of the apartment," reports Asness. "Apparently a lot of women get drunk and accidentally walk out the front door on their way to the bathroom. Several supers have mentioned that."
Hmmm.
As for any know-it-all rental building supers out there with reality show stars in their eyes, there's still time to apply: Asness says she expects the search to continue for a few more weeks.
