5 houses in Little Rock, Arkansas, one of the most affordable cities in the U.S.
Keller Williams Realty
Little Rock, Arkansas's capital, has a population of 738,344, making it the most populous city in the state. It also has one of the country's lowest-priced housing markets.
According to last month's RealtyHop Housing Affordability Index, the city is the third-most affordable housing metro area in the United States, with residents allotting only about 15.5 percent of their income towards mortgage and property taxes. The median listing price there is $199,000—slightly below the national average of $225,300, but it's rising—so it's a good time to check out what the city has to offer.
Little Rock is also Arkansas's cultural center, with live music venues (the White Water Tavern and Willy D's Piano Bar, to name a few) in addition to major institutions like the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and the Arkansas Art Center.
For outdoorsy folks, there's the nearby Pinnacle Mountain State Park, a massive natural wonder full of hiking and mountain bike trails, fishing, picnic spots, rivers, and endless beautiful sights. There's the Big Dam Bridge, the longest car-and-train-free pedestrian/cyclist bridge in North America. There's the River Market District, Little Rock's thriving retail and dining center. And there are a slew of Southern food standouts like The Root Cafe and Three Sam's BBQ.
If any of that sounds appealing, here's a taste of what's out there.
